what does it mean by sees through you
gab
Japanese translation:友達とは、あなたを通して見、なおかつその視点を楽しむ人のことです。
Explanation:
友達とは、あなたを通して見、なおかつその視点を楽しむ人のことです。
I wanted to use the word, "なおかつ." It's appropriate for the nuance of this sentence and the context.

This could be translated as,
友達とは、あなたを通して見、なおかつその視点を楽しめる人のことです。
This is more "nuance-oriented" translation. Yet exact English for this is "still can enjoy the view." But I thought it would be better to stick to simple translation.

disagree  humbird: I am afraid I can agree with this sentence. Virtually this says nothing. Besides grammar is shaky.

Explanation:
You asked:
what does it mean by sees through you

In my view this means "a friend is the one who understand the ways you think, and do not criticize".
In other words "what does it mean by sees through you" is to be explained as "someone who can internalize your feelings, thinkings, behaviors, and share them with you, enjoy life together."

One more note ......... A friend is someone who can put him(her)self into your position. A one full of sympathy and empathy.
By the way, you said your question is "NonPro". I believe this is a Pro level question.

disagree  Katalin Horváth McClure: I don't think the あなたをフィルターにして part is right. That would be right for the idiom: "to see through sy's eyes". "To see through somebody" means seeing his/her good and bad sides, intentions, know him/her thoroughly.

-> No nothing is wrong with フィルターにして . Your interpretation is wrong. It means the friend's view is filtered through you, thus identitified with you, so the viewpoint is similar or same. You did not see this.
