German term or phrase: Altrot
Dear colleagues,

I am searching the English term for the German "altrot" ("old red"). The only references I could find were sites for railway enthusiasts where "Lokomotiven in Altrot" was translated "locomotive in livery red".

None of the paint manufacturers I know has this hue in his range so all my references failed...

Can anyone confirm whether this is a) correct or b) perfect nonsense (and in case of b) suggest a better translation) ?

Thank you very much!

antique red
Explanation:
Quality oil colors/water colors are named after their ingredients. This is where Jonathan's answer would be absolutely correct. "Altrot" obviously is a descriptive phantasy name for some kind of faded red.

I also found "vintage red".

Thank you very much! "liver red" seemed odd to me right from the start....

Purple red (RAL 3004)

Explanation:
On the site quoted, there are the English designations of all the RAL colours, and this is the nearest, apparently, to "Altrot", which came from the second site below - which indeed avers that it IS Altrot....

Notes to answerer
Asker: well - in the color tables for acrylic colors, "purple red" is referred to as "Purpurrot", which is rather different.
