School Explanation: This is one of those tricky problems we encounter from time to time, e.g. translation of a concept that has no real equivalent. My suggestion is to translate it just with school, e.g. the biggest local college in my area (here in the UK) recently merged with a number of smaller regional colleges and is now simply known under one - new - name. This college is indeed governed by one board of governors but has 4 or 5 smaller branches in surrounding towns. Internet searches on 'merged schools' show that these kind of schools are not referred to by a specific name such as 'scholengroep' but tend to change the actual name of the school only. |

Composite/comprehensive school Explanation: 'Composite' in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. 'Comprehensive' in the UK. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2006-03-23 19:26:52 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A 'scholengroep' and 'composite/comprehensive school' offers different types and levels of education, so that students of different ages and with different abilities (elementary, junior/senior high, vocational etc.) can attend. It is not a merger and, although they may share facilities, usually each school maintains a certain amount of independence. schools consortium Explanation: depends on why they are together in a group, but this one doesn't look back to me... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 days18 hrs (2006-03-26 10:46:28 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- should say 'doesn't look bad' Reference: http://www.uea.ac.uk/care/nasc/NASC_home.htm |
