mentally exhasuted / mentally taxed
Explanation:
I'll try to take into account what goes into the rest of the sentence, rather than to preserve the expression as a noun phrase. cheers

mental footing

Explanation:
Just one idea...
You probably understand that the phrase has to do with your mental health and the ability to remain in good mental health or with a healthy mind and heart to deal with any difficulties.

mental (emotional) latitude/leeway

Explanation:
I realize that 神経的 is traditionally translated as "nervous" or neurotic, but IMHO it sounds kinda ridiculous in this type of nuance.
Anyway, good luck!

moral leeway

Explanation:
I wonder whether 'moral' might be better than mental, although it depends on the meaning of the sentences before and after.

calmness/level headedness

Explanation:
精神的な余裕 is very Japanese expression. While Japanese culture values 精神 and holds it in high place in their value system, this 精神 itself in Western sense, nothing or very little to do with "spirit" or "soul".
For this reason I am quite certain what 精神的な余裕 means is strictly a matter of mental state.
Then what is 余裕? It is again a state of mind, which in this case or most other cases "to stay/remain calm and level-headed".
Thus, 精神的な余裕がまったくなくなってしまう means you become upset by some minor or major thing, thereby become vulnerable to make a wrong decision.
This expression is used in conversation/sentence as admonition not to run into such a mental state.
