è corretto parlare di prossimità per prox, ma sendo le frasi citate ('check the wiring of the prox' 'prox fault case weigher' 'prox defect') credo che si riferiscano a sensori di prossimità; "controlla i cavi del sensore di prossimità", difetto del sensore di prossimità, ecc.
Quindi usare solo "prossimità" (e poi al plurale) non ha senso
