Em PT-PT, no domínio da tecnologia mecânica, "maquinação" é absolutamente sinónimo de "maquinagem", i.e., produção de peças através da remoção mecânica de material. Pessoalmente, prefiro o termo "maquinação" a "maquinagem".

Claro que o léxico português (de Portugal) também regista "maquinação" como "planear em segredo algo prejudicial"...
