Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / retail
French term or phrase: nombre de références
In a list of figures about a retailer:
Nombre de magasins 102
Nombre de références 50 000
My research has shown me that it is to do with the range of items sold but I am not sure exactly how this translates in English. Thank you!

number of lines
Explanation:
In traditional commerce, one often talks about 'lines' --- 'product lines', of course --- in this sort of way.

Otherwise, it might be 'products' (but that could be confused with the QUANTITY sold)

In other terms, it might actually be 'reference numbers' or 'part numbers'.

It depends if all these 'references' are from one supplier (think of component suppliers like RS Components etc.), or from lots of different sources...

The translation might be different according to what type of retailer this is, as different fields sometimes have more specific vocabulary for things like this...

Thanks, that fits perfectly, I knew it was just the word I was looking for! I used 'product lines' to be clear as it was a list

neutral  Tony M: Might be OK, depending on the product; if they have a 'catalogue', fair enough; and if they are phsyical items; but what if it is a company selling, say, insurance or financial products...?

agree  Tamara Salvio: If it is a "range of items" as asker indicates then it I agree it should be number of product lines.
