| 読み替え data changeover Explanation: I'm not sure if there's a more official sounding term. but this is essentially the meaning. It can refer to manual data re-entry, or automatic recognition by a computer of old data as the equivalent new data. One example is when 2 or more towns are merged to form one larger city, the old data (old town names, old postal codes) needs to be recognized (either for a predetermined period or indefinitely) as the new data (new city name, new postal code) so that mail can reach the intended destination, or to allow affected residents sufficient time to update/change all their details with relevant parties. Another example might be when, as happens regularly in Japan, 2 banks are merged to form one larger bank. This involves major updating of bank records such as branch names, bank/branch numbers for both the bank customers and anyone who has dealings with the banks or their customers (credit cards, furikomi cards, etc.) Hope that helps(?)
