Medical - Medical (general)
English term or phrase: subscore
I just come across this word while translating. The subject is medical, but I don't think this is medical-specific term as it is discussing patient's data collection while evaluating pre-surgery and post-surgery differences. Naturally the data is for evaluation of surgical intervention.
Here's the context.

Continuous variables including XXX pain ***subscore***, range of motion, XXX score, function XXX score, and SF-12 physical and mental component scores .......

To my surprise, no dictionaries list this word, and though I have pretty good idea what it could be, my problem is unable to come up with exact definition of this term.

Any input is highly appreciated.

part of a wider scoring system
Explanation:
Your context isn't particularly helpful in revealing what this is actually about, but from my experience of psychological and aptitude testing I would expect a subscore to be a result on some sections or elements of a larger assessment. Thus you might set an English test which gives candidates an overall score for English, but then by referring to particular parts of the test only you could come with "subscores" for aspects such as spelling, grammar or vocabulary.

It's hard to tell exactly what is going on in your reference, but it's possible that, for example, patients are given a post-operative assessment of their general post-op. state, and part of this wide assessment would include "subscores" for particular factors such as pain (there would obviously be subscores on other factors too, and I wonder if your writer has in fact been somewhat sloppy in distinguishing between subscores and scores).

agree  MMUlr: Yes, e.g. the WOMAC score includes three groups of questions, some of the total 17, IMO 5 questions, being on pain symptoms, so WOMAC provides a subscore for pain (the other two are mobility and function :-) ).

-> Thanks - and that supports my theory that the writer of the text has perhaps used "score" for some later items which are really "subscores"
