autarquia

I appreciate your explanation, but I would appreciate it even more if you didn't make comments about my knowledge or lack of it in notes to other users. I had a list of isolated words and I wanted an equivalent for the word "autarquia" only. When I posted my question, I referred it was "autarquia" in the sense used in pt-pt. That is, in the sense of local authorities, municipality, etc. A pt-pt native speaker would understand it without further context.
Hurray! Now I kow what contexts is!

"Os destinat�rios s�o: trabalhadores, empres�rios... autarquias, juntas de freguesia..."
I wrote "Autarquia em pt-pt" because in Portugal there is only one meaning. As henley said, it refers to a form of local government. In this case, probably it refers to "munic�pio".
