Portuguese term or phrase: give-aways da região
Hello!
I've come across the phrase "give-aways" in a Portuguese text relating to tourism. Any ideas? It's used in conjunction with "material promocional"... should I just use "promotional material" and give them one term for the price of two? I'm positive the term give-aways isn't used in this context in English. it's one of those pesky little English expressions that's mutated and taken on a totally different meaning in a foreign language.
Oh, before I forget, here's the full sentence:
"Durante a semana, todos os postos de turismo foram decorados com cartazes alusivos ao Dia Mundial do Turismo, e existiu uma distribuição de folhetos bilingues (em inglês e português) com uma mensagem relativa à efeméride, acompanhados de um give-away."
And another example:
"O Aeroporto contou ainda com apontamentos de entretenimento musical e folclórico e uma welcome-desk onde foram distribuídos materiais promocionais e give-aways da região."

English translation:give-aways is a great term....
Explanation:
presumably little trinkets typical of the region... for instance, in the kit Iberia gives it's first class passengers, there's a little bottle of olive oil.

Last year at the ATA Conference in Toronto, ATIO, the local translation association gave away little bottles of ice wine.

These are definitely called give aways in the advertising industry.

Girls, two very helpful answers, but I can't split the points, so I've given them to Marian for providing a definite tourist-related context.

Típico exemplo da pobreza de espírito de quem usa um tipo de coisa desse tipo. Essa "monstruosidade" em pt significa "brindes promocionais"

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, Klausin. I'm with you, in that I don't like to see these English expressions creeping into other languages. However, as Marian has confirmed that the term is used in English, and specifically in the tourism sector, I'll stick with "give-aways" in this instance, although my first instinct was to translate it as "promotional material", just like you suggest. thanks for your time :)
