Volgens OED is een fascia een band of strip, ter versiering van bouwwerken bijvoorbeeld, of voor voor in je haar. Bovendien: 'any object, or collection of objects, that gives the appearance of a band or stripe.'

Bij een auto denk ik dan aan een (sier)strip, maar die zitten meestal aan de zijkant...

Maar in het autowoordenboek van Parahuys staat bij deze term: dashboard. Dat is wel weer heel iets anders...

Loek en Hester hebben volgens mij beiden gelijk. Ik vraag me wel af in hoeverre de term 'fascia' bij de doorsnee Nederlandstalige bekend is. En 'strip' vind wel een tikkeltje beperkt, aangezien het volgens DAE (zie hieronder) duidelijk om een sierstuk gaat. Om de 'Qual der Wahl', zoals iemand dat afgelopen week op Proz noemde, wederom te vergroten, doe ik ook maar een duit in het zakje: 'sierstrip' of 'sierlijst'. Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar 'sierlijst'.

Autowooordenboek Wagenaar Hummlinck: fascia = dashbord, instrumentenpaneel.

Advies aan twijfelaars: kijk bijv. in enige van de 13.100 Googlehits voor de combinatie fascia/car/Mustang.

Als dat (sier)strips zijn, zijn de twijfelaars ongetwijfeld Goliaths!
