A late payment penalty will be applied..... Explanation: "A late payment penalty will be applied at a compound interst rate determined at/equal to twice the (current) base/legal rate..." They'll need to mention compund interest to distinguish it from simple interest, I'dtend to use base rate for légal (at least in the UK) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2005-07-15 09:58:04 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Taking the UK as an example, it is common for notices and contracts to specify a bank\'s base rate as the basis for calculating their penalty rate. But the main thing is to distinguish compound from simple interest. For example, at a 10 per cent rate per period (e.g. month) the simple interest on £1000 after two periods will be £1200 (1000 + 100 +100) whereas at a compound rate it will be £1210 (10% of 1000 and then 10% of 1100). So given the differences they have to spell out the rate they are using. |
