If it were translated directly as ....方面...", it would seem a little weird to our Chinese ears.:-) Please see Molecular Aspects of Lymphocyte Differentiation … Description of the Project The goal of our research is to understand at molecular level the early steps in lymphocyte differentiation in order to be able to design ways of interfering with it. For this purpose the chick embryo provides an ideal model, first because of the deliniation of the B and T cell development in separate lymphoid organs, bursa of Fabricius and thymus and because of the availability of early embryos for experimental manipulations. More specifically we want to define the roles of transcription factors in the differentiation and function of T and B lymphocytes and their precursors cells. We have cloned and characterised several such genes like ikaros, aiolos, helios and early B cell factor regulating differentiation and function of hemopoietic and lymphoid cells. We want study how these transcription factors function in the initiation of lymphocyte differentiation using molecular biology methods and embryonic stem cell technology. The chicken B cell line DT40 allows efficient gene disruptions and analysis of mutant phenotypes. My research group is composed of graduate students carrying out their thesis study program.
