Hier hat es sicherlich die Bedeutung von "dennoch", "trotzdem"...
Zu den bereits gemachten Vorschlägen könnte ich mir hier auch noch
"Wie dem auch sei" (i.S.v. "Trotzdem") vorstellen...

Eine geschickte Variante wäre z.B. auch die Doppelpunktlösung, z.B.:

(Und) dennoch: Es ist unsere Aufgabe...
(Und) nichtsdestotrotz: Es ist unserer Aufgabe...
(Und) trotz allem: Es ist unsere Aufgabe...
(Und) trotzdem: Es ist unsere Aufgabe...

Kleiner Auszug:
Ja, das Wort "still" ist schon ein schwieriges Wort. Du hast recht, daß
ein Teil der Schwierigkeiten daher kommt, daß es auch als Adjektiv
und Substantiv gebraucht werden kann. Doch meiner Erfahrung nach
machen die verschiedenen Bedeutungen von still als Adverb die meisten
Probleme. Die Frage von Lorme habe ich schon mehrmals gestellt
bekommen und sie bezog sich immer auf still als Adverb.

Hmm, ich denke schon, daß still auch "dennoch, trotzdem" bedeuten kann.
Zum Beispiel bei "Police shot him in the legs, since he was unarmed. Still, he died." sehe ich nicht, wie da "immer noch" gemeint sein könnte.

kam mir zuerst in den Sinn - und der angefragte vorhergehende Satz bestätigt ja auch, dass dieser (Still, it is our job ...) die Begründung für den davor ist.
