Hello, all,
Probably i missed something..

How to backup my stuff - say, the whole thing, with Windows XP Home edition?
I mean to do that backup at the end of the day, to write everything on the CD, in case of some problem..
I looked thorugh the Help and could not find it. Only Restore option.

Thank you,
V.

Just use the simple tool integrated in Windows XP Sep 17, 2005

Go to Tools - System programms - Backup and follow the instructions on the screen.

Please note, that this is quite a simple tool without any sophisticated options. You will NOT be able to backup your Windows installation using this tool.
If you want to backup your whole Windows installation, the best way to do this is to get an specialised backup tool. Such tools operate in DOS modus, so the Windows system can be fully backuped because no files are then active.

Backup software Sep 17, 2005

You need an external backup software. For example File Backup Watcher or Norton Ghost. But I would be interested to hear what software others use to backup their data.

Difference between Home and Pro Sep 17, 2005

The built-in back up function is only directly accessible in Windows XP Pro.
However, as far as I know, there is a way to access and use it indirectly in the Home adition. Since I have Pro, I never paid too close attention to it, but if you google for it, you might come across the solution.

external software Sep 18, 2005

Hi

I use an external programme called SyncBack - http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html
very easy in configuration, and very helpful, I created several profiles for different folders, you can either have it running in background or schedule regular backups, e.g. every day or before closing Windows. And it is a freeware.

Piotr

Two levels of BU Sep 20, 2005

Hello Vladimir.

There are two levels of backup, for documents and for the whole thing.

For in-progress documents I keep copies of those files on a server. I keep all the old backups, often tens of them for a single job, until I receive payment for the job.

For my complete Documents and Settings folder and other locations where I store information, I use Karen's Replicator to make automatic backups to my server.

The three level have its own use and all are needed.
