Viewing mixed files in Windows Explorer (XP version)

I found a new view in the Explorer window simply by chance:

In the Explorer Window, choose "View / Details" and under "View/Order symbols according to/" choose "Groups" (BTW, I use the German version so it may be different in the English version). You will now find all your files sorted alphabetically into groups. A click on "file type" at the top of the pane will neatly arrange all the files under their corresponding application as the heading.

A click on the date will organise groups according to "today", "yesterday", "last week", "last month", "start of year" "last year", "2 years ago" depending on the files present.

Although this view needs more space, it certainly makes a folder containing all sorts of bits and pieces much more concise.
