Well, since Kazakh is a TURKIC language I cannot see why it should use the Cyrillic alphabet.

Here is one good reason: Cyrillic has more letters. For example, with Cyrillic you simply use the letter ш. With Latin, you have to invent something that compensates absence of an equivalent letter. And here you have an insane bunch of variants. Even when we consider Turkic languages only, just take a look: Turkish/Azeri: ş; Gagauz: ș (a different letter!); Uzbek: sh; modern Kazakh: ś.

Every nation has a right to discard systems imposed by an occupying empire. Russification under the Soviet Union was an abomination imposed on many nations, and in this country's particular case the USSR decided to abolish the Arabic alphabet to alienate the Muslim populations from their own culture.

Well done Kazakhstan.

Sadly, Aboriginal people were not asked by the British Empire which imposed not only English but also Latin alphabet on them.

I was not aware the Aboriginals even had an alphabet in the modern sense.
