Hi, ProZians in Canada!
Samuel Murray and a team of members has been preparing "ProZwiki" - "a compendium of knowledge for translators, created by translators". The group has been private so far, preparing internally before releasing the program to the community.

After the Montreal conference, it occurred to me to draft an outline for a group article on the topic of the "Translation Industry in Canada". I am hoping that between the conference attendees and the rest of our members in Canada, we can divide the article up into sections, and write a nice reference--from the translator perspective--on the topic. The intended audience for this article would be other translators, students, clients, etc. (Once ProZwiki becomes public, it would be open to anyone on the web.)
I have asked Ricardo, our developer assigned to ProZwiki, to grant access to ProZwiki to users in Canada. You can see the "template" for the article here: http://www.proz.com/prozwiki/en:Translation_Industry_in_Canada
Anyone care to take a section or two? Just click on the 'edit' link beside the section you want to fill in. Wiki rules apply: don't be shy... just start writing and the group will take it from there.
The sections as I listed them are:
- Languages spoken in Canada
- History of translation in Canada
- Profile of domestic demand
- Associations for translators, interpreters, and language companies in Canada
- Universities in Canada that provide translation training
- Sworn translation system / certifications
- Translation technology / translation products produced in Canada
- Laws of interest to translation industry professionals
- Demographics of translation industry professionals in Canada
- Status of translators and interpreters in Canada
- Methods and terms of payment
- Status of ProZ.com community in Canada
- Largest translation companies in Canada
- Notable Canadian translators
- Links and resources related to translation in Canada
You can also add any section you think should be added.
If you take part in this exercise, please also post any feedback here - especially if you have any trouble - so that the ProZwiki team can improve the experience.

Thank you, zetiez, for posting a bit about universities offering translation training. That is the idea - just add a paragraph of two where you have the information.

Hi Henry,
I have two questions:
1) Could you please explain how to put in a link to another website?
2) Is it possible to search the directory for all the proz members in Canada? I know you can search by language pair but I would like to see all language pairs. It might be nice to post such a list on prozwiki or provide a link to it.

There is some information on editing here: http://www.proz.com/prozwiki/Help:Editing_Help
Links can just be written, starting with the http:// - as Muscade has in the associations section - or they can be written in this format, as I did in the links section: [[http://{URL} Text for link]

I don't think it is possible in the old directory right now, but it is nice idea to add that. Thanks!

Please go ahead! To add content, you should click on the 'edit' links in this page: http://www.proz.com/prozwiki/en:Translation_Industry_in_Canada Then just overwrite what is there - don't hesitate, this is just a group experiment...
