desearía que algún usuario de proz me dijera desde su punto de vista si realmente sale a cuenta hacerse platinum. también si merece la pena editar el perfil personal. ya sé que según proz todo son ventajas, pero no sé si es que nos quieren vender la moto o si las únicas ventajas son para proz y para agencias bruites.
y esto de que la mayoría de ofertas se envían directamente a los traductores, es realmente cierto o sólo para alguna combinación de lenguas?

I find it difficult to take your question seriously, because you posted it anonymously. I have had all kinds of advantages from two and a half years of exposure on Proz.com, with name, address and phone number. I am being contacted by agencies directly, without them posting bids.

What happens to you with Spanish is the same problem I have in Italian...  I read your messages because I like your forum, but I cannot see my own participation there. I also believe there are advantages to ProZ, but as you mention, I prefer not to answer to someone that hides behind anonymity.

My intention was not to remain anonymous. I just simply thought I had no reason to lose time writing my profile if I am not sure to surf on proz in the future. And I don\'t know why my name, Sandra Chávez, and my language combination don\'t appear on the left side of the message, under \"Author\", like in your case. But maybe you have already let me know what I wanted to know. I supose that you could feel suspicious because there are some agencies who remain anonymous just to make foul play. Therefore, proz is not as useful as I thought.

Nuestra falta de contestación fue una manera sencilla de pedirte identificación, puesto que tú puedes ver nuestros nombres y nuestros perfiles de traductores con sólo hacer clic en ellos. Obviamente, si no estás inscrita en ProZ no aparece tu nombre. Lo que me extraña es que el sistema te permita acceder al foro sin estar inscrita.

¿Ventajas y desventajas de estar en ProZ? Muchas ventajas y, para serte franca, algunas desventajas derivadas también. La mayor ventaja es doble: por un lado tu currículo está en un lugar al que accede mucha gente que, eventualmente, te puede ofrecer un trabajo. Esta misma comunidad te proporciona contactos con colegas de todos los lugares imaginables que a menudo se enfrentan a los mismos problemas o cuestiones de traducción que puedas tener tú, por lo que la experiencia acumulada es enorme y puedes enriquecerte de ella.
¿Desventajas? Comienzas a trabajar más con agencias extranjeras y, alguna vez, puedes encontrarte con el caso de que no te paguen, pero eso creo que también te puede suceder en tu país de origen.
Puesto que no te cuesta dinero, te recomendaría que te crearas un perfil en ProZ y lo mantuvieras tres o cuatro meses. Tras ese tiempo, juzga por ti misma si te compensa o no.

En realidad para entrar a este topic del foro hay que seleccionar una fila que dice entre otras cosas quién inició el tema (ver bajo \"poster\"), y en este caso dice claramente Sandra Chávez, de modo que la anonimidad de Sandra no era tal.

This always happens to new ProZ members. For the first few days, their forum contributions are \"anonymous\". Henry once explained that this had to do with verifying the person\'s identity or establishing the proper links to brand-new profiles. Just wait 1-2 days, and the right user name will appear.

Varias cosas:
1) Como ya se ha dicho los primeros días no aparece en los foros el nombre del que pone el post. A mí que sou nuevo me pasaba hasta hace dos días. Y además el sistema no avisa, por lo que no sabes que tu post aparece anónimo.
2) El perfil personal merece claramente la pena editarlo. Sin él difícilmente nadie te dará trabajo porque no pueden hacerse una idea de lo que sabes o no sabes hacer.

3) Respecto a hacerse Platinum (pagar $120), yo que llevo un poco menos de un mes, no te sé decir. Si me sale trabajo por ProZ —de momento tengo 2 contactos originados aquí— me haré, más por ayudar a mantener el sitio que por consideraciones de provecho personal.
4) Hay ventajas para todos, y desventajas también. Ni nos van a \"salvar\" ni se trata de una \"conspiración\", es simplemente \"business\".
5) De mis dos contactos, uno fue por un bid y el otro directo a iniciativa de la agencia.
6) Esto es un tablón de anuncios. Cualquier agencia puede anunciar un trabajo o contactarte. Habrá de todo: negreros, malos pagadores y buenos clientes también. Ahhhh, y aquí una diferencia importante, creo que los socios platinum pueden acceder a información sobre las agencias, nosotros no. Toma las precauciones habituales, procura saber con quién hablas para hacerte una idea de si son serios o no. En estos mismos foros hay normas de precaución que deberías respetar (casi todas creo yo) al tratar con agencias nuevas.

Quería conocer sus opiniones sobre si conviene ser Platinum. Específicamente, tengo dudas porque no conozco personalmente a ningún Platinum de ProZ, pero gente que conozco se anotó como miembro pago de otro sitio para traductores, y eventualmente no renovó su participación al no sacar ninguna ventaja concreta.
Sin embargo, en vez de respuestas, me encuentro con un episodio perdido de los X Files. Lástima...

I was a non paying member for three or four years and never felt the need to become Platinum. I used Kudoz, contributed to it, bid for jobs and even got some work too, all without paying a cent.

I really don\'t think you should knock the site until you\'ve tried it. Personally, I can\'t imagine my professional life without this site nowadays.
I was a non paying member for three or four years and never felt the need to become Platinum. I used Kudoz, contributed to it, bid for jobs and even got some work too, all without paying a cent.
However, my mind was changed by attending the Kudoz conference in Italy, where I met Henry and other Prozers. I realised then that Henry is not some \"get rich quick\" kid with a scam to cream off a few dollars from hard pushed freelancers.
Henry explained honestly and openly (I believe) the financing of the site and revealed how little real money was coming in from advertising on the net (in general... and specifically here). He made an impassioned plea for more of us, who love the site and find it an essential tool, to contribute something towards its upkeep.
So I went Platinum - and within the first week was contacted about a collaboration - which has been fruitful so far and is on-going.
So, choose for yourself, the amazing thing here is that nobody is forced to pay for such an excellent tool.
Sadly, my prediciton is we are basically passing through the \"hippy honeymoon\" with the Net - in five years time (or less) I predict you won\'t be able to do a thing on the Net without paying for the privilege.. but that\'s another topìc.
Enjoy your contact with Proz. I predict that if you give it a chance you too will wonder how you survived without it.

Por sobre todas las cosas, lo mejor que me ha dado ProZ es una cantidad de amigos siempre dispuestos a colaborar, a tener una palabra de aliento en un momento difícil y sentimientos que van mucho más allá de lo estrictamente profesional. Éso es absolutamente invalorable y no hay dinero que lo pueda pagar.
Un paso más atrás quedan las posibilidades reales de trabajo que se abren. Después de tres meses agregué en mi perfil mi número de teléfono y al día siguiente recibí un llamado solicitándome cotización para una traducción.
Créeme que nadie te va a llamar si no saben cuáles son tus especialidades, experiencia o forma de contactarte.
