primero: la traducción original es correcta y defendible, ¿porqué no invitan a quien la contestó a unirse al foro?
segundo: America for the americans. El destino manifiesto y quien define la identidad de todo un continente.
Creo que a pesar de que la aplicación del gentilicio pudiera ser la correcta, eso no significa que los americanos \"not the americans\" continuemos utilizándola en el lenguaje cotidiano y hasta en las traducciones. Yo voy por un gentilicio entre comillas \"americanos\".
tercero: ¿Qué somos los del sur del Río Bravo? Americanos, sí; latinoamericanos, si dejamos fuera a muchos paíces del caribe y a Belice; hispanoamericanos, si nos contamos junto a España. La definición de América Latina la propuso un francés y el nombre del continente no lo dió Americo Vespucio, sino sus \"amigos\" que ganaron mucho tras su muerte.
cuarto: de acuerdo con los \"ismos\", sin embargo, creo que como traductores debemos hacer un esfuerzo por encontrar la mejor traduccción y dar estadísticas de un buscador de internet como el famoso \"goggle\".

...no sé si a todos, pero sí a muchos, es ver el nombre de nuestro país, gentilicio y etcéteras con \"j\". Con o sin razón, se trata de un hecho que ofende la cultura mexicana, hay que estudiar el ancestral origen de este nombre y respetarlo, más allá de la \"concesión\" de la RAE por darnos un lugar que, de hecho, es histórico. Al final uno se lo toma con humor, qué remedio.

I respectfully submit that América Central and Centroamérica are not the same thing.
This is a common misconception and may never really become a clear distinction.
Centroamérica is a political division of América Central.
The following nations comprise Centroamérica: (in alphabetical order, of course!)
1. Costa Rica
2. El Salvador
3. Guatemala
4. Honduras and
5. Nicaragua

This group of nations is called Centroamérica because the share a common independence date (15th of September, 1821).
Panama achieved independence on the 28th of November, 1821 from Spain and voluntarily joined a community of nations known as La Gran Colombia from which it seceded on the 3rd of November, 1903.
Belize (formally known as British Honduras)became independent from Great Britain on the 21st of September, 1981.
All of the countries mentioned are part of América Central. Only the five mentioned in the numbered list and that share the same independence date are the nations known as Centroamérica.
The Caribbean Islands are boderline part of the geographical division called América Central. Politically they have little in common and culturally are even less connected the nations I have mentioned.
There is, to my knowledge, no translation for Centroamérica into English.

...Así es!!
Y no nos olvidemos de \"las gangas\", que no son precisamente las \"bargains on sale\", sino las \"gangs\" que andan con x allí con las \"guns\"....

From what I hear from Spanish friends who have been to Florida, there appears to be a process of \"pidginization\" happening amongst the \"Latin\" speaking community.
Whether this is leading to a genuine creole born of US English and S.American Spanish (to use the usual British terms) or whether this is a bit of fun the bilingual communities are having with both languages, I am not qualified to say.
