I'll apologise in advance if there are spelling mistakes, badly constructed sentences, random ideas and crazy opinions.. As I said, it's an outlet for expressing myself freely without having to watch my words (both literally and figuratively).
It's a work in progress so don't expect much (for that, go to some of the other blogs I'm a fan of, especially Cake Wrecks - when professional cakes go hilariously wrong).
I have a few entries that I have to finish off, but just haven't had the time recently.

* For those who don't catch the association, it's a half Spanish translation of the saying Cockles and Mussels, a popular Dublin song..

No and no ... Jul 17, 2009

an option that was unfortunately missing. No blog, no social networking, no intention to engage in either.
I prefer my non-virtual life, and if I ever find myself with far too much time on my hands I will write a book ...

Yes, I do: fidusinterpres.com Jul 17, 2009

Yes, I have a translation blog. I write it in Portuguese, English and German. It's been online for a year and a half now. Before that I had had another translation blog for a year, but it was hosted on the free Blogger.com service, and I thought it was time to move to a more professional hosting and domain. Yes, I have a translation blog. I write it in Portuguese, English and German. It's been online for a year and a half now. Before that I had had another translation blog for a year, but it was hosted on the free Blogger.com service, and I thought it was time to move to a more professional hosting and domain. My current translation blog's address is:

http://fidusinterpres.com

There you'll find
- lots of discussions about our business
- tips about tools and articles on translation
- a Links page with other translation blogs (not just translators' blogs!) I like
- a Bookshelf page with dictionaries and books on translation for speakers of Portuguese
- a Translation Videos page with translation/language-videos I found on YouTube
- etc.

I spend a couple of hours weekly taking care of my blog, and posts are usually written a few days before actually going online. The small **annual** amount I pay for the domain and hosting service is completely recovered **within the first month of the year** by revenue from strategically placed Google ads.

And with the help of my blog I have been found by lots of new clients, many of them belonging to the higher paying group (direct clients), but also by PMs who happen to land there because of some information I posted that was useful to them.

Besides the business and marketing aspects of my blog, another good point is that in maintaining it I have the opportunity to write regularly for an audience who cares (which is a good thing for many reasons) and get to know many people working or interested in working in our profession.

If you would like to visit my blog and check it for yourselves, here's the URL:

Me too! Jul 17, 2009

My blog is called Naked Translations and for the past six years, I've used it to talk about translation and language. It's been *by far* my most effective marketing tool and I've discovered lots and lots of interesting colleagues and resources through it. It's currently being redesigned and I can't wait for the new look to go online.

Two blogs Jul 17, 2009

At the moment I have two blogs, both of them concern my specialisation: Catalonia and the Catalan language.

The first blog is in Dutch (catalonie.web-log.nl) and is intended for people who are interested in the region. Its culture, history, etc. are little known here (apart from the Costa Brava), so I want to make a small contribution to expanding knowledge about Catalonia and its lesser known aspects.

My articles always focus on items in which people can participate, such as exhibitions of Catalan artists, new translations of novels and poetry, movies to hire, concerts, events organised by the Association of Catalans in the Netherlands, etc. It has a small but faithful group of readers, and it gives me the opportunity to get into contact with a lot of interesting people, like Catalan authors and artists.

The second one is in Catalan (elsbataus.blogspot.com) is rather recent and I am still in the process of building up a fair amount of articles. In this blog I aim to give Catalans an impression of the kind of events that are organised here concerning Catalan culture, the news about the region published by the Dutch press, Catalan people working here, products from the region which are available in the Netherlands, etc.

Writing this articles compels me to keep in touch with Catalonia and its culture, something that I tend to 'forget' when I am very pressed by deadlines. Reading online newspapers and websites of cultural institutions now is a fixed moment in my agenda.

Yes, a blog, twitter, Friendfeed, FB, LinkedIn... and a rich offline life too (WOW ;) ) Jul 17, 2009

Alessandra Martelli wrote:

I do have a blog, and I like it.

It isn't focused on a particular topic, it is just a place where I put some little bits of myself (music I like, pictures I take, books I read, cooking recipes, ...) and, yes, sometimes I translate poems I like and post them, but I really couldn't call it a translation related blog.

I think it is my "Coney Island of the mind", and I like the idea of people coming in, reading and sometimes sharing their thoughts about what I wrote.

If you wanna jump in, please help yourself: http://graffidisigaretta.splinder.com
(It is in Italian, but music is universal and you can enjoy some of my favourite tunes)

I quote Alessandra, that answered as I'd have liked to (apart from cooking and recipes, LOL). Mine is half personal (I created it when my son was born), half translations/medicine related, but don't write often in it lately, Twitter now takes up most of the time I dedicated to it. I'm also on other networking sites and forums, and through them knew lots of translators too (esp. on Twitter)
I'm not posting links, though, because the blog is no Facebook, and I'm incognito in there

(btw, Alessandra, thanks for the Keith Emerson song )
