Hi mates:

Lately I've been noticing postings with replies such as:

"This subject has been dealt with earlier. See http://www.proz.com/topic/.........."

Now, I think that this is OK for technical subjects, where the experience or answers posted by colleagues could be useful. However, I think that for "off topic" postings, or postings having to do with new developments, etc. it isn´t necessary.

First, I think the new information may be more relevant and up to date than what is in the old posting, and second, it may discourage people from posting what they feel is a new topic in the forums.

After all, how many of us really search past topics, except of course, when dealing with technical problems?

Just my two pesos worth,

Cheers from cold and cloudy Santiago

Just consider. Many a time it has happened that the same point is touched upon by more than one person within a very short interval of just a few days. Even the cited url is the same. In that case there is bound to be some person for pointing this out, such as myself (I have done done this more frequently than I care to remember and that too using the wording:"See http://www.proz.com/topic/..........").

There is yet another point. Even if one had something original and different to say, one would have just added to the original thread instead of opening a new one, had one been aware of the existence of the old thread.
