Dear collegues, I am having trouble with pop-up on my computer. Whatever address I tape, a pop-up window appeans offering access to xxx-movies related to the topic (I wonder what they offer for eurodicautom...). I think this might be due to the fact I have opened some spam message through Outlook... This makes me waste a lot of time on the whole and lose my temper while working. How can I stop it? Thank you in advance for your help. Elena

You've got spyware or malware on your computer. This can usually be removed by scanning your system with some antispyware software. Try SpyBot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/) or Microsof... See more
Hopefully that should do the trick. If not, let us know.
And beware of Outlook attachments from now on. It is generally considered to be more secure to browse the web with Firefox than Internet Explorer. Less chance of picking up nasties that way.
Good luck!
Alan
Edit: Outlook uses the Internet Explorer engine to view messages. Switch off HTML viewing of emails and you won't get stung by spyware-laden emails. Or, better still, switch to Thunderbird!

I myself use Kaspersky for last 8 or 9 years and it NEVER has let any virus through.

Hi Elena, I had a similar problem, but nor Spybot Search & Destroy nor Adaware didn't help. Only Ewido (http://www.ewido.net/en/) finally solved the problem.
HTH!

And post it here. Ideally type the exact wording in "quotes". Also downloading and installing the google toolbar prevents pop-up messages quite well and is useful in other ways.

Dear collegues, first of all I thank you all for your advice. I have tried ALL the methods you have used and still unwanted windows pop up. I wonder if I should go out and buy an anti-virus. I have had Panda Titanium for some years; it updated on-line automatically and never had troubles before. Thanks agains, I will let you know. Elena

Browser or system popup?

Dear Elena As the moderator of this forum, I am in fact a bit reluctant to vetting your last posting where you list the content of the actual message - I think that you can understand this
I think that you're talking about a system popup (like any program popup) and not a browser (IE, Firefox etc.) popup is it right?

I remember catching something similar a few years ago but at the moment I can't remember the solution exactly. It was about tweaking Windows. It was not a virus but this company was using a network feature. I'm going to try and find it again.
