  • Dear members,

It's that time of year again. Here is a report on news and advances since the Year-end report to members for 2013.*

  • In December, in conjunction with the year-end membership campaign and "Giving Tuesday", nearly 5,000 USD were raised in the Typhoon Haiyan recovery donation drive. Thank you to everyone who participated in this and other worthy initiatives.

  • Job flow through ProZ.com rose slightly in the first four months of this year in comparison with 2012 and 2013.

  • To date, the translation center, thanks to the generosity of more than two thousand Translators without Borders volunteers, has processed just over 17 million words (4 million since the last report) and has served 313 NGOs across the globe.

    Translation center

  • In March, the translation center which was built in support of Translators without Borders' efforts was made available to interested ProZ.com members. The platform allows you to efficiently route work to translators with whom you already have a relationship. Some paid work has already gone through the translation center, and a first round of improvements based on feedback from members using the platform is now being made.

  • Translation contests are on throughout the year. Two contests have been held since the last report:

...and there will be more of these as the year moves on.

Additionally, the annual ProZ.com translation contest for 2014 opened on April 7th. The theme for this contest is Celebrations. Source texts are currently available in English, French, Italian, Spanish and German. Just over 300 entries have been submitted so far, in 84 different language pairs. A new feature in the contest platform allows for the selection of a target language variant when submitting or reviewing entries. If you have never participated in a ProZ.com translation contest before, this one is a good place to start. Submissions are open until July 31st.

    Appreciation
Many contributed to the items listed here, and to many other changes and improvements that are being made to the site. In particular, I would like to thank the following members for community activities, suggestions or feedback that have influenced activities since the last report:

Alexander Schleber, Thayenga, Daniela Zambrini, Alexander Onishko, Raquel Lucas de Sousa, Isabel Vidigal, Ildiko Santana, Eric Ragu, site localization teams, Moderators in the class of 2013-2014, ProZ.com site guides, the members who are volunteering as ProZ.com mentors, all conference organizers and speakers, and ProZ.com trainers.

Special appreciation goes out for Catherine Guilliaumet, who passed away in April, for her contributions to the site since she joined in 1999. In memoriam threads for Catherine can be found here (French) and here (English).
