Dear ProZ.com members,

The year-end membership campaign will be starting shortly. Membership is what makes ProZ.com possible, so let me take this moment to thank you, site members, for investing in your business and for supporting ProZ.com through membership.

To follow up on the Mid-year report to members published in May, here is a report on the advancements made in this second half of 2010:

Events
In virtual events,

In-person conferences have been held at venues in the following cities in the second half of this year:

And the following conferences will be held before the end of the year:

Client flow

Membership and site guidance
Membership has grown. With over 16,000 members, ProZ.com continues to advance as the world's largest community of translation professionals.

  • A new option for membership was released. Membership plus training provides the option to purchase or renew membership together with a self-paced training package, at a reduced rate. Training packages currently offered include Getting started, Project Management, or Marketing and promotion. Details can be found at http://www.proz.com/translator-training/packages/membership-plus

  • There is now a staff member dedicated full time to helping members get the most out of their ProZ.com experiences. Members may also receive instant support through the chat option in their profile updater, http://www.proz.com/settings

Certified PRO Network
The Certified PRO Network continues to grow. Members of the Certified PRO Network (CPN) were invited to participate in the ProZ.com virtual conference for translation agencies, and for the ProZ.com virtual conference for translation consumers a booth will be on display to help translation consumers learn more about the network and locate participants for future job opportunities when needed. In a series of recent focus groups held during the virtual conferences, members of the network identified key steps in growing and improving the network, and work is beginning on these. The CPN currently contains over 2,400 professionals.

If you would like to know more about the Certified PRO Network or would like to apply, please visit http://www.proz.com/cpn

Training
More ProZ.com members are offering training, and more are being trained.

  • There are currently 96 on-demand courses including videos, self-paced and one-on-one training. Scheduled courses are also available.

  • Translator training packages were created, which provide bundled packages of training courses at discounts of up to 45%.

  • If you are knowledgeable in a certain area and would be interested in training others, please contact the site team to propose a new training course. See http://www.proz.com/translator-training/trainers

TWB screening center
A screening center set up for the organization Translators Without Borders (TWB) during the crisis in Haiti continues to be used to facilitate volunteer humanitarian translations.

Collaboration / Networking

  • Forum-style commenting systems were added to several new areas, including powwow pages, Translation news, and the ProZ.com Wiki.

  • New options to network and to share information via social networks were added, for example in forums and through your profile.

Moderator class of 2010-2011
The now yearly rotation of moderators took place in August, and the new class of 2010-2011 started their one-year term.

Site navigation and systems
Improvements have been made in site design and usability. An example is the recent set of changes to the job posting quote form for job quoters and the quote review/evaluation interface for job posters.

Behind the scenes, the time that it takes to load a site page was further decreased, and upgrades to hardware and to reaction time when problems do occur are helping to ensure a more consistent, un-interrupted service. In the eventuality of outages, notification and frequent updates are communicated using the Site status page (About --> Site Status).
