A new translation contest starts today, with a source text in Russian: an excerpt from Град обреченный, or The Doomed City by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.
Similarly to the last two translation contests, this is a one-text contest, and is separate from Celebrations, the annual translation contest, which has a Russian source text of its own.
The phases for this contest will be as follows:
July 3rd - August 7th: Submissions
August 8th - August 22nd: Hybrid (pairs with 3 or more entries move into either qualification or voting rounds)
August 25th - September 8th: Finals
Winners should be announced September 12th
If you work from Russian, or you know Russian and feel up to the challenge, take a break and try your hand at translating this extract.
"What about a source text in other languages?" ProZ.com translation contests depend on the collaboration of participants in many aspects-- voting, commenting, submitting entries, and also in finding suitable source texts in various languages (especially languages in which no member of the site team is native). You can help ensure source texts in a variety of languages for future contests by proposing a text in your native language. A feature has been created to allow the community to propose and comment on potential source texts for contests. Criteria for suitable contest source texts are also outlined.
