The main reasons I have platinum membership are: - Full Blue Board access. - Support for a site that is unique in the world of translation and provides important services to our professoin. If the site does not have profits it likely would disappear. - Support for the outsourcing feature. - Full Kudoz access. However, I rarely use the quoting feature. I often put up jobs for quoting from others though. | | | Mihai Badea (X) Luxembourg English to Romanian + ...

The reasons stated by Edward are valid for me, too, except for the outsourcing feature, which is not relevant in my case. I think that "Blue Board" is one of the most useful features. The "Blue Board" alone is a sufficient reason to become Platinum. It saved me a lot of money. I declined several jobs after I've seen the bad rating the client had on Blue Board. In my opinion, this feature of Proz is one of the best tools for minimizing the risk of not being paid.

and on top of the reasons that you have put there, I would like to add one more: Being part of a community. Being a platinum member makes me feel that I am a part of this great community. Otherwise it just would not feel right to me to only get things, without giving. My name is registered in a few other sites as well, as a non-paying member, and I rarely go there, because I do not feel that I am a part of them. Here, I feel right at home... I'm not a member of any guild or professional body but my ProZ platinum membership bestows some credibility. If my customers do the same online checks I do, they will not just find my website, Internet is a lonely place, but they will also see I've been serious about translating for years. One other thing that isn't mentioned often enough is that I can't think of many other sites that offer so much functionality. I always show this site to IT savvy friends to show them the possibilities of a web-based database application. They're always impressed. ProZ is an example of the way a website like this should be developed and the improvement requests only confirm this. Regards, Gerard ▲ Collapse | |

I appreaciate very much for what the Proz.com staffs have done for the translation community around the world. I benefited not only the diversified functionality available to the members, but also the translation skills, ethics and knowledge from the colleagues in the community. In the year 2006, only wish this website can keep going, for the sake of translators and outsourcers.
