I have tried several times to reply to two new scam-related forum topics today, but each time I click on Submit, the forum page goes blank.

If I use Preview, I get this odd message:

You are posting a reply to the "" topic in the "" forum. If you wanted to post a new topic, go back and use the 'Post a new topic' link.

Do others have the same problem? Of course, if you have, you can reply.

I have also opened a support ticket.

No problem on my side, Thomas. I just posted on that thread https://www.proz.com/forum/scams/330824-is_this_client_legit_or_shady_not_sure_if_i_should_give_my_bank_info_out_to_them.html

Maybe they just fixed it.

It might be that the thread was unavailable at the time you tried to post, Thomas. It happens when a thread is being moved to a different forum, that I do know, so maybe it happens for other reasons too, e.g. it's being moderated.

Sheila is right Dec 4, 2018

Thanks, Sheila. That's what support said.

Still a bug, though, as the UI doesn't do what it says. Not that I have high hopes of getting it fixed, as Proz seem more interested in rolling out glossy new features than keeping the existing functions in working order. In my days as an IT specialist, we actually put a lot of work into fixing bugs, but that seems to have become old-fashioned.

Most bugs should be fixed before release Dec 4, 2018

It's sad to see, I agree. Back in the '70s, I was a user, feeding early computerised personnel records systems at Shell. The IT division actually poached me as I was so good at breaking the system . I worked as the user interface, testing systems before release, doing daft things like entering "19/00/1066" in the date of birth field, etc. It was great fun! Eventually, I moved into programming, producing code that hopefully didn't fall apart when someone sneezed.

Chasing down bugs in live systems eats up vast resources and the fixes can make things worse if they aren't tested adequately, as you know. But if they're there, the time/money really needs to be spent, IMHO.

Bugs Dec 4, 2018

Yes, intermittent bugs and bugs in interactive/server systems and networks can be challenging to find. Some people have a knack for it, others not. Some may be brilliant programmers but bad debuggers. 25 years ago (how time flies), my first task at IBM in Greenford was to find the bug in a special system backup procedure written by one of their best qualified specialists. They were close to scrapping it altogether. He somehow couldn't spot what was wrong. I had to monitor in- and outgoing streams to finally realise that two records came back in reverse (unexpected) order when the software was used on a multiprocessor CPU, which made the monitoring routine stall. Only a light fix was needed. There was also a bug in the underlying system software.

But a forum like this is pretty static. The server has an index with a record of what is where, and then there is the client software, which should be able to detect when the requested record has been or is being moved. It shouldn't be terribly difficult to fix. It’s more a question of deciding that it’s important to wipe out bugs and keep existing software working.
