For some time now, strange ads unrelated to translation - such as the one depicted in the screenshot below - have been appearing on our portal.

A German-language forum http://www.proz.com/post/1310039#1310039 started a while back and has in the meantime run up to nine pages of heated discussion.

Like many of my German colleagues, I consider this kind of advertising to detract severely from the intended nature of this site. This is not the kind of visual matter that I wish either existing or potential clients to see and indeed I hardly view it as an inducement stay on as a paid member.

Paid-for advertising that is related to our profession is fine in my view, but I believe that our portal should be firmly blocked from all other types of advertising sources, since they could make a laughing stock of ProZ itself and of all members/users.

I wonder what peers in other countries think about this and indeed what experiences they have made?

Do these ads show up in localized ProZ pages in other languages?

Please note: you may also need to temporarily log off from ProZ in order to view the ads.
