My Main Keyword TIBETAN (Translation) does not bring up my Profile in Proz Search

I have just performed a search using the term "tibetan" which is all over my profile, and my No. 1 keyword.

The search failed to return my profile, however, it brought up two other users, one of whom does not do Tibetan translation at all, but merely happens to have "tibetan" as part of her username!

Solution?

You're right, searching for TIB-EN translators doesn't bring you up, and I only found you on googling when I actually put your surname in as one of the search terms (in addition to tibetan, translation and site: Proz.com), and even then there was no link to your profile but only to a few other pages that don't seem to have anything to do with you.

I'd submit a support ticket, something is clearly wrong.

If I understand correctly, you searched for yourself using the "Search ProZ.com" function, http://www.proz.com/?sp=search

Note that when searching for users, results returned may be based on username or real names, but not on other fields in the profile.

You do appear in the freelancer directory, http://www.proz.com/translator-directory when I look for Tibetan to English translators, on the first page of the non-member results. This is how outsourcers using the site are most likely to find you, through the directory. Remember that an important factor in your directory visibility is KudoZ PRO points earned in your top language pair(s) and areas of expertise.

As for your profile, you can help to make it more visible on the web, to help potential clients find you through web searches. A complete and accurate "About me" and keywords section help, and you can find some more tips in this article:

My Profile still not Google-able by my Keywords "Tibetan Translation", my Name, etc. Oct 5, 2008

Thanks to both for your replies.

(Incidentally, there is something wrong with the encoding of the forum pages. Also, when I click on my name on THIS page I am taken to http://arm.proz.com/profile/756388, where half the text is scrambled, but if I remove the "arm." the profile is displayed correctly. What is going on?)

Yes, that is the function I used. It does seem to work the way you described, though this is clearly not satisfactory, and there is much room for improvement.

After all this time my profile still does not appear in Google. I have looked for a "Hide my profile from search engines" box in the Settings but couldn't find one.

Google does bring up a few pages like http://hun.proz.com/profile/101467?sp_mode=corp_profile&summary=y
I wonder what merit this page has as compared with others? Repeating "Tibetan" a hundred times?

Do I need to submit http://proz.com/profile/756388 to Google manually?

Profile finally Googleable by "Tibetan Translation" etc. Oct 12, 2008

Oh good, my Profile has now been indexed by Google, thanks. Now I need to pack "Tibetan Translation" in a hundred times and I'll be sorted!
