I missed this poll because I was sick!

Well, just a cold, but I was feeling very rough on Tuesday. I finished the translation for that day and took to bed, refusing all other work except a couple of tiny things for a recurrent client that I can do without thinking too hard.

I don't admit to being ill, I tell the client I have "other commitments" which works for just about anything.

Well, just a cold, but I was feeling very rough on Tuesday. I finished the translation for that day and took to bed, refusing all other work except a couple of tiny things for a recurrent client that I can do without thinking too hard.

I certainly appreciate working from home for myself at such times. Working in-house, I would agonise over whether it was worth the effort and possibly infecting all colleagues just to finish up whatever I was supposed to hand in and not let the PMs down. With one boss I could work from home, then when we were bought out it was no longer possible. The first boss would ring me up and hassle me if I took time off. Once he was haranguing me for not sending in my sick note, because the doctor hadn't yet been able to fit me in (there was an epidemic). The doctor actually arrived at that point. She saw I had very low BP and asked if I was under stress. I explained about my boss and she said, well in that case I'll give you an extra week!
