Why not? My "good mood" is not any kind of a specialist.

Too many complainers! Jul 16, 2017

I can't agree with all you complainers. The polls are meant to foster chat among colleagues. The part I like best is seeing how my experience compares. Do others go about life as a freelance translator in the same or different ways? Am I the only night owl? Do I have the same reactions? I also enjoy "meeting" the people who post answers.

I seriously doubt the polls were ever intended to edify us. They are advertised as "unscientific." And they seem to be quite popular, with responses ranging from 500 to over 1,000 a day.

Thinking of something new to ask after all these years is challenging. Would you prefer that ProZ shut down the polls because they are not sufficiently creative or intellectual?

polls are fun - Jul 16, 2017

Mario Chavez wrote:

Sorry, but I am another opinion there. These polls should be informative and possibly help us translators, and I am sorry, but if someone is in a good mood or not is of no interrest to anyone at all because these are personal feelings!
I find it okay if we have a joke every now and then, but useless polls should be filtered by the ProZ staff - we are paying for this after all!!!
If I want to hear a joke, I pick a book of jokes or tune in to one of Gabriel Iglesias' HBO specials (he's very funny). Whether I'm in a good or a bad mood, that's a personal matter, as Michael says. The point is not whether I have a choice to ignore a useless poll. The real thing is why is Proz allowing such dreck in a presumably professional portal in the first place?
And that's why I'm not paying Proz. The trash that I generate at home (empty bottles, newspapers, junk mail, etc.) cost me nothing. Why should I pay someone else for trash?

Polls are fun. Sometimes strange questions, sometimes funny questions.
But
regardless of your sense of humor, if you do not pay, please do not criticize. You receive quality and you invested nothing. I am pretty sure that my membership for over 10 years was one of my best investments. From a moderatorship to being banned from the site I experienced here a lot.
But I never imagined that thanks to something I learned here I will receive the biggest order I dreamed about: 840 692 source words. #weareblessed

THANK YOU, ProZ.com and thank you, all dear colleagues, who helped, encouraged and suggested.

So please do not call ProZ.com a trash! And do not judge the investment if you invested nothing. Do you know anything about the about the benefits of a paying membership? Did you ask anyone who is a paying member or anyone who is ere for over 10,15,even 20 years?

I suggest you to try to see the world sometimes as this brave little owl:

I am not in the habit of lecturing others how to consider or respond to Proz polls, or any other poll. Please don't fall in that habit.

But I'll take the liberty of pointing out a contradiction in your reasoning: “polls are fun...but regardless of your sense of humor...” You consider polls fun, at least this kind of poll. I don't. Like I suggested earlier, let's use other words to be more explicit: What do we mean by fun? Entertaining, lighthearted, silly, enjoyable, humorous, hilarious, laughable? Or do we mean they're distracting, inane, banal, childish, etc.? Fun and funny are not the same concepts.

If I pay for Proz services, they don't and shouldn't include unhelpful polls or other items of little or no value to me. I am not answerable to you or to anyone else for what I can say about this or that service. If you don't like my opinion, feel free to ignore it; no one is forcing you to read it.

Muriel, we can always agree to disagree. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Like Michael, I consider this line of polling a waste of time. Why do I comment? Because Proz allows users to post comments and share their views. I don't consider polls a particularly useful communicative or collaborative medium, but I am not asking anyone to agree with me.

Relax Jul 17, 2017

Quick polls are for relaxing purposes, to take a break. They have no "serious" intent. I agree some polls are childish and even irritating, and I sometimes critize them too. But think of the purpose of this entire section. Do you think ProZ staff created this section for professional discussions or for entertainment?

To you, but not to the others. Please do not blaim ProZ.com/underestimate the work they make for us. This site has over a million of users. Nothing can satisfy all.

As the saying goes Jul 17, 2017

If you haven't got anything nice to say, say nothing at all.

Especially if you're a curmudgeonly old grump.

I am always in a good mood Jul 17, 2017

A good mood is your normal state since you have born.
So, I don't see the real point here.

If you are not satisfied what have you done to change what you don't like? Jul 17, 2017

I must be assertive on this: If you are not happy with Proz, what have you done to change what you don't like?
I always tell what I think and I still have some issues with bad translators and, mostly with bad reviewers taking money from others. But I am here because I want to be at Proz, paying or not paying. I know other communities where you pay to get clients but at the end of the day you don't get paid.
