Swivel office chair Dec 22, 2016

The chair I have now is the best ever. I've gone through about six of them since I turned freelance, each with its drawbacks. Now I'm finally happy.

Here's a photo. Mine is nearly identical without the padding on the arms, which tends to get grungy.

A regular office chair Dec 22, 2016

It's looking pretty beat up and scabby nowadays. I may see if I can afford a new one in the New Year, the problem is that you have to assemble them, and I've never been handy at that kind of thing.
A few years ago I heard wonderful things about Hara ergonomic chairs, however they were prohibitively expensive at the time. Right now I'm sitting on a normal dining table chair, as I'm back in Scotland for the festive season and, unfortunately, a family funeral. After an hour it gets pretty unc

A good ergonomic chair Dec 22, 2016

I don't know about state-of-the-art, as it is about 18 years old, and at least one end-client claims to be constantly researching and introducing improvements. But humans don't evolve that fast, and the chair suits me. It was bought by my former employer when he took me on, and sold to me for a very modest price when he had to downsize and no longer needed so many office chairs! It will presumably last as long as I need it.

An ordinary office chair + Dec 22, 2016

Since my desk is a little higher than normal, my office chair has additional pillows and a raised, slightly creative arm rest.

My chair is an office chair. It's not an ordinary office chair, but it's not the state-of-art ergonomically perfect chair either. It's somewhere in-between. What we call a "director's chair" in Brazil.

I have one of these, too. By the way, in English it's called an executive chair, while a director's chair is a totally different animal - a folding chair for movie directors to sit when shooting outdoors:

I love cats and their presence while I work. However, the body needs to keep 90 degrees (torso to thigh, thigh to shin) ratios to sit ergonomically, and for no more than 60-90 minutes at a time. When we're young (younger than 40, I mean), we don't notice and we don't care, but then our bodies start to bother us with shortened thigh muscles and other ailments.

I need a 106° butt angle, with my knees either straight or folded all the way, and I'm well over 40.

Now we can have a poll about what percentage of people prefer what angles ... and if there is a correlation to locales.

Task chair Dec 22, 2016

One of the many things I have learned from my adult children is that office chairs are now called "task chairs" here in the U.S. ---and that is what I sit on when I work. Mine will no longer remain at its correct height as the air leaks out of the hydraulics. I have to readjust it upward every hour or so. So I'm sort of shopping for a new one, but am not sure where to start looking for a truly ergonomic system

You are absolutely correct. I know that since I'm still not in my 30's, I don't feel the consequences of my bad posture. I imagine I will also need to buy an ergonomic keyboard to avoid damaging my wrists.
