How many of you are going to Rotterdam in June?

I have attend 1 in the past and it was a really great weekend.

Would like to attend at least 1 a year, but I always seem to be busy when they come up, or just too far away for a quick visit.

I would have liked to see options for "none" and "you gotta be kidding"

As I said before (another very similar poll) I used to go to conferences, workshops and seminars when I worked in-house, but for the last nine years every time I plan on attending one, work comes my way or some family thing comes up that conflicts with it...

How very sad.... May 7, 2015

I said 3, but much depends what comes up and when. I try to attend at least one conference proper a year, plus other workshops/events too if I can. All I can say is that the 64% who said they never attend (at the time of writing) don't know what they're missing! Well worthwhile investment in your business in my opinion - but each to their own.

They're certainly not all big events, but the Communication and Language Professionals in Denmark arrange discussion groups, visits and 'after-work' meetings. They are enjoyable and give a glimpse into what others are doing and different angles on communications and clients.

I hate missing the national Danish powwow in September... again, maybe not world-shaking, but fun, and we certainly discuss a lot of useful topics in the course of the day.

An agency I work for organises a Translators' afternoon once or twice a year, and apart from meeting colleagues and a chance to give the agency feedback, it is often very interesting in other ways.

It depends where you are, but some people do take a weekend out to attend. I should probably try to go to more of the big ones again - when I have attended a Proz.com or CIoL event it has certainly been worth the effort.

Colleagues I meet recommend me to clients, and I feel able to return the favour when I have met people and know what they specialise in.

Like Teresa May 7, 2015

When I worked full-time, I was able to attend conferences and workshops, several a year, but as a freelance I never have the time.

I don't think there has ever been a translation-related event in the region I live in.

The only translation event I have ever attended in my 30 years of translation is a single proz.com powwow organized in my city Ahmedabad, and that too for having my identity verified. Attending a powwow is one of the few ways you have of getting your proz.com identity verified.

I did strike a good equation with the other participants of this small event with whom I maintained contact for several years.

I would but EUR300-500 is not an option.
I was very sad about Budapest conference where many of us were banned just because these prices fit for rich translators only. I sent a mail to the organizator asking him why the costs are so high even for the local people.
Finally I understood this is a business for a certain amount of high-profile translators.

About two May 8, 2015

I attend the Colorado Translators Association's conference every year, and usually also the ATA conference, but not every year - about two out of three, usually.

It depends on the year May 8, 2015

Sometimes I attend one, two... I guess five courses/conferences/events at the most. Other times I simply don't because of so many reasons!
