Better not best Oct 25, 2005

I have several favourite songs, depending on mood or other stuff.
My top five includes: The Blower's Daughter by Demian Rice, Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, Strategie by Afterhours, Glycerine by Bush but the first is definetely Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

People should know better, but in the world of music, there is no ‘best’.

Have you ever heard "La Cura" by Mr. Franco Battiato? Oct 25, 2005

(Sex Machine) by James Brown. Forget Prozac. Put this on, at L-O-U-D volume, and watch your mood swing to Happy.

I can't think of a more beautiful love song than "Ne me quitte pas", as sung by the one and only Jacques Brel.

Gianni, two Italian songs that go straight my heart each time I listen to them, in terms of voice, words and music - "Caruso" by Pavarotti and Dalla, and Francesco De Gregori's "La donna cannone".

Nice topic: thanks!

If not, give him a chance, you won't regret it. To me, that's the best italian love song ever written. Actually, it goes BEYOND love I couldn't even explain...
And, yes, JB works for me as well!

There are way too many of them! Oct 25, 2005

I will give you my top 5, it would be really hard to decide for only one song!

1. Radiohead - Electioneering
2. Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go
3. Heroes del Silencio - Maldito Duende
4. Massive Attack - Five Man Army
5. Guns & Roses - Estranged

Johnny Cash's American series Oct 26, 2005

I couldn't decide on just one title...the American series is a great mix of covers and Cash originals. Will remind you of lots of old favorites you'd forgotten about. There's even a cover of "Bridge over Troubled Water" for those who mentioned that one as their favorite.

Otherwise, "New Hampshire" by Sonic Youth (homage to my home state) is always a good one, especially live.

OK, this is my second plug this week on Proz for the November issue of Vanity Fair magazine...

OK, this is my second plug this week on Proz for the November issue of Vanity Fair magazine...but it does include a great article by Sheryl Crow...her annotated list of 25 CDs she'd take on a road trip...

Happy listening!

Well, that was the case when I posted my original message - unless of course we don't count the same way or use different criteria

I count at least 12 non-English songs so far (including classical/instrumentals) Oct 26, 2005

Interesting that people find a way to bicker even in a fun forum like this

I just re-read the Sheryl Crow article in the November VF. It will definitely make you want to head right to your nearest music store.

English is sort of the original language of rock'n'roll, though, isn't it?

Sara

Songs, not classical music, Sara, which happens to be the title of this thread as well...

And that was the case at the time of my o r i g i n a l posting.

And I maintain that I find it interesting that the vast majority of these songs are in English although many among the answerers don't come from English-speaking countries.

I'm sorry if you have a problem with my opinion, or with a fact. Nor am I sure that the word "bickering" is appropriate here.(Remember? no personal judgements on ProZ).

Have a good day
