Hans, it depends: for public at large listening to music on their computers and iPods it may be true but for real music lovers it definitely false. We still buy vinyl records and CDs and listen to them on Hi-Fi or Hi-End stereo systems. I download music in thousands but I use all those downloads only for familiarization with the music: if I really like an album I buy it on CD or vinyl as I like to hold something in my hands. On my shelves you can find about 700 CDs and 4000 LPs. A record or CD cover for me is an integral part of the album. | | | Nikita Kobrin Lithuania Local time: 01:22 Member (2010) English to Russian + ... Really funny! | Sep 27, 2012 |
Yes, Rad, I know this and similar collections. Really funny! This one for example:

When I saw this record, which I bought when I was a teenager, I said to myself... "What?". Then I listened to the music and said "What?". Today I went to my basement to dig up the LP and still say "What?". I certainly love its power to make me say "What?"...

Nikita Kobrin wrote: Pink Floyd - The Wall (1980) I am a bit puzzled by this. The double LP I have (which was sold in Spain) does not have any writing on the cover. Just the white wall. Not even the spine is scripted. If you own this record, would you mind checking whether this is the case in your record as well? | | | All to the stove! | Sep 29, 2012 |

And now, now we download music, and cover art doesn't seem to matter anymore. True or false? And will book covers go the same way? I'm not exactly a Luddite, but… I reckon we should make a very fine scan of all paintings in art galeries, post them to some website, and burn the paintings since they are useless and take up so much space and security expense! ... Does not sound right, does it? Today I spent some time perusing my little (honestly, very little) collection of LPs. I do not have a record player anymore, but if their music was stored in the cloud or in a pen drive today... what pleasure would I have had this morning? It's not just listening to the music. It is also about the memories both the music and the physical record bring: how old was I when I got this one? How the hell did I like this music then? Who gave this to me, why, and where? Was I happy/happier/less happy in that period of my life? If the physical carrier of music is not important... I reckon we would be missing the big picture... | | | Daniel Pestana Portugal Local time: 23:22 Member (2010) English to Portuguese + ...
