Hey guess what, it's summertime! (Well, at least on this emisphere) Following the other hugely (LOL) successful topic, "What's your favorite pizza", I'd like to find out just about how many flavors we can come up with. Mine: too many to mention, but "caffè e stracciatella" (coffee + fiordilatte ice cream with chocolate chips) wins nearly all the time. G

I used to love the hazelnut ice cream I could get in Italy. Unfortunately it's rather hard to come by in the UK.

Yum! Even now in winter.

(almost) any fruit flavour | Jun 1, 2011 |
Wow, what a nice topic, Gianni! Well, I live in Italy, THE country of ice-cream and not only! I love fruit ice-cream: melon, watermelon, strawberries, green apple, passion-fruit a.s.o. But I also like wall nut, pistachio, coconut, black chocolate... I know an ice-cream store downtown Milan which is absolutely fabulous... they have fantastic ice-cream!!!
Liquorice and "meringued milk" | Jun 1, 2011 |
They make this very nice liquorice ice in Finland. When in Finland on any occasion, I try to have as much as possible of that (I tend to visit Finland in the summer). As for Spain, we have this "leche merengada" (meringued milk?), made traditionally with milk, cinnamon, egg, sugar, and lemon peel.

This week it's home-made blackberry sorbet (the last batch of last summer's fruit from the freezer). Chestnut fudge ice-cream: French sweet chestnut purée beaten to a custardy goo with egg yolks over a bain-marie, then folded into whipped cream. My younger daughter will soon be here for 3 weeks, so I'm sure there'll be plenty of naughty treats in store: wild black cherries in eau de vie folded into bitter chocolate, raspberries with toasted oats and honey... ... I don't get "store" ice-cream very often, but when I can I go for all the nutty flavours: praline, pistachio, coconut... Ooh - I must stop! Alison

I do like a certain European-sounding brand's vanilla, brownie and caramel ice-cream, but if I'm out and about and want some, I'll generally just go for plain vanilla. Too boring perhaps? Sometimes I'll go for 'dulce de leche' (caramel made from a milk/sugar combination, or condensed milk) here in Barcelona too. Paul.
