Very educative, too May 13, 2012

Would you pass me a glass of water. please. (the dot before "please" )
35 translations later: Bottled water is mandatory.
P.S. This was the first hit (at random). Further randomly hits of the same sentence, as the languages sequence varied, were less educative, among them such as "Add to my glasses".

So he was in the mood to play a barman today. you ask, he stands there, holding the tablet and shows you galantly where to -actively- put the glas you wish to have refilled.

gentle. and very concerned about environment.

(and a poet as proven in page 1, funny humour when singing and definitely a very logical guy [see page one])

I'M IN LOVE!

is this robot guy married?

"nobody is perfect!" I am turning my motor boat on now :]

imagine a person not speaking English nor German prepares for a visit in, let's say, Berlin.

prepares, so checks a bit also the current political environment there.

and then thinks how to handshake with one of these funny new guys on the politics block.

he carefully designs an easy howdoyoudo-like-formula:

"How is the sailing weather today?" (in his language, not in English, since he does not speak English)

and sends to our robot guy.

Robot guy replies, the translation is a few steps later: "Length of day?"

So, in order to make that clear: the person preparing for a visit would have to design a greeting forumla "Lenght of day" in order to reach a greeting formula acceptable for a Pirate.

actually, he would have to write a formula asking whether the person he is greeting is bored.

well... this c.o.u.l.d. lead to political discrepancies.

but should be probably tested first.

...but... on the other hand...

maybe he has some luck and meets one of those who stares at him, thinks for a while and comes to the conclusion: "probably a quite desoriented tourist with a serious hangover" and responds:

"HI, NICE TO MEET YOU. 13. EAST."

:]

Later on, the page was not online anymore and the link you see in the opening thread is now leading to "bad translator" who however is in my eyes still as funny as he was at the beginning.

I have phrased my doubts about usage in diplomatical context, and indeed, for the above French sentence, funny translator produces (35 translations later):

"(I) special administrative area, marketing, Hong Kong (Duteluoyix), and France with a small culture ı feel at home against the Yankees, Odaux and f (Chairman of the National Assembly of the second post I don't encourage) 1.1 (manual)"

I wish to highlight the usage of enumeration here, the new name of Hong Kong (Duteluoyix) and Frances "small culture" (funny translator seems to like Louis de Funés), the unconventional use of i-dots, the fact that he describes Louis' movies as movies where he feels at home against the "Yankees" and an "f" (?), the "f" beging in fact the Chairman of the National Assembly... - well, definitely a gifted experimental poet and a funny songwriter but should probably stick to verses. (manually written ones.)

take a look at this link
