Hello everyone!

I would like to know which are the "normal" rates for transcriptions (e.g. for German, Spanish, English, French, Italian)?

A company in South Africa offers €0.61 per audio minute... Considering that the transcription often requires (depending on the quality of the recording) twice longer as the length of the audio file, I wonder whether this remuneration is normal?

Does anyone know what a translator can charge for a transcription?

Thanks a lot!

I can offer no useful answer for you except to remind you that transcription takes 5-10 times as long as the actual audio (not merely twice as long), so if they're offering €0.61 per audio minute, they're really offering between €0.06 and €0.10 per actual minute, in other words around €3.00 to €6.00 per actual hour. If you're happy with such a rate (or a rate that is similar), then I would recommend that you give it a try. Or, you could work as a waitress at McDonalds, and earn twice as much.

A big amount of translators are using PEMT = post-editing of machine translation.

Some transcribers are using post-editing of transcription.

https://www.realspeaker.net/ = machine transcription

Advantage: it is fast.

Disadvantages: there is a fee for transcribed time, transcribed text (or subtitles) is before downloading publicly visible for everyone, quality depends on talking person and topic, ...
