On Dai Congrong's translation of Joyce

Years ago, Ulysses written by James Joyce was translated by Yang Xianyi and Dainaide (his wife). This translation version was high-praised by Chinese writers, scholars and poets for its gracious and accurate diction. Years ago, Ulysses written by James Joyce was translated by Yang Xianyi and Dainaide (his wife). This translation version was high-praised by Chinese writers, scholars and poets for its gracious and accurate diction. It has exhausted the strength and effort of Yang Xianyi, and many people thought it had arrived at a unsurpassable height.
Until Dai Congrong's translation of Finnegans Wake, many people thought it more difficult and intricate than Ulysses. Moreover, in China's market, it also welcame a very large amount of sales although it is very expensive. It is highly concentration of human history and culture and society. Joyce has a so large ambition in this work that he would like to make it involve anything in the world, just as large as the cosmos.
Even some poets said they didn't like Dai's diction, I am willing still to buy and read for just experiencing such a feeling is valuable. I also will compare her translation with Yang's translation in order to see the shortcoming, for the later's reference. ▲ Collapse
