Off topic: Wizard of Oz - Best German Translation?

What is considered to be the best German translation of the Wizard of Oz? Not the title, but the book. I would like to purchase this book for a German-speaking child, but have no idea which translation to choose.
Thanks in Advance!

I assume that the best is yet to come...

How odd, then, that amazon.de lists over a dozen German versions of Der Zauberer von Oz in print format alone.

Unfortunately I can't answer your question directly, sudont, but would like to point out that if you intend to buy the book for a child, then you might also like to consider the style and quality of the illustrations (if any) as well as the translation as factors in your selection. If you're not in a German-speaking area, you can use the 'Look Inside' feature on amazon.de -- of course, that doesn't mean you have to purchase through them if you don't want to!

Illustrations in children's books are an integral part of the books as objects, and they contribute to the reader's experience along with the text.

I know that there are some translations out there, but

My answer to this question: There is not one. I assume that the best is yet to come...

Hope this helps.

Actually, it's not very helpful as I'm looking to buy this book in the present time, rather than in an ideal future which may never come. In fact, I'd like to send it to her for Christmas. But just in case there is a misunderstanding, I will re-phrase the question:

What is considered the best German translation of The Wizard of Oz available today?

I don't know how well you read German - here are some reviews of the German translations (in German); maybe this will help you with your decision making!

Thank you for the links! Unfortunately, I do not read German, although I can order a beer and say "thank you". Indeed, this is the very reason I'm looking for opinions from those who are bi-lingual in German and English.

Let me try to re-phrase my question, again. Which translation of "the Wizard of Oz" do you like best? I am only looking for opinions. You do not have to defend them. At least, not to me. I want to buy the book for a child, (in time for Christmas, I hope), not write a thesis.

Question Nov 21, 2012

You never told us the age of the child. Among all the translations available, it will make a huge difference to know if the child is 8 years old or twelve.

TIA!

Best,
Nicole

She's eight years old. I suspect her mother will do much of the reading at this stage.
