If you are given a translation that has already been proofread and changes suggested, and all you have to do is accept or reject suggested changes, how would you go about charging it? It\'s a 5000 word project.

Also, how much more could you charge if the client asked you to do this within two hours?

Thanks

Anna

Ceiling based on word count Dec 23, 2002

One way to set the ceiling is to base it on word count, i.e. the fee will be either the time it takes to proofread, or your rate for translating 5000 words. That way the client would know your ceiling before you start. In this case, as mentioned already, 2 hours may not even be enough to read 5000 words, let alone evaluate changes. Whether the 2 hour limit is reasonable depends to quite a large extent on whether the suggested changes are few or many.

In a situation such as this, what others sometimes do is to work on the text for the 2 hours that will be paid. If they haven\'t reached the end by that time, they deliver the text, indicating clearly where the stopping point was.

hourly - deadline depends on your own workload Dec 24, 2002

Hello,

I would charge it per hour. Two hours would be the time needed but it depends on your own schedule and availability.
