Hi there everyone,

I just try to push myself to get more experience as translation, so decide to go for "no-paid" translations as I need to expand my translation background, since after a while I have not been set on the market yet.

Apart of Trommons, could you let me know about more charity website which work on this kind of way, please?

Any though, would be more than well appreciated.

Thanks

Hi David,

You may want to take a look at TWB, Translators Without Borders, volunteer translation for NGOs:

Hi David,

You may want to take a look at TWB, Translators Without Borders, volunteer translation for NGOs:
http://translatorswithoutborders.org/About-Us
http://twb.translationcenter.org/workspace/faq

See requirements on http://translatorswithoutborders.org/Volunteers/Translator-app
You have to take a short test to get in. Once you're in, you get notifications when documents are available for translation. They're usually Word/Excel/PowerPoint documents no longer than about 1000-1200 words (if it's more they're divided up). It's a first arrived first served system, and of course you get to see the document before you assign it to yourself. Some can be very technical (HR, medical, etc.).
The perk is that your words translated are automatically counted and added to your Proz profile

It's a wonderful way to help out!

Dear Nadia and David,

Please note that as described in the last link provided, TWB only works with established translators.

Best regards,

Kalinka

TWB is not the place to learn Jan 8, 2016

Sorry, but I think it's a bad idea for inexperienced translators to approach TWB. In all probability, they will fail the test, as many do. If they manage to be accepted, they will be assigned work which may be highly important to those affected by crises - helping them to survive. If an experienced translator produces a poor translation, it will not be proofread; it will go straight out to those people in need.

TWB is for experienced translators who are established and successful, with a good record and great feedback, who are comfortable enough financially to be able to give something to the community.

What an inexperienced translator needs is feedback, and that won't come from TWB. Go for something where others will see and amend your work - for better or for worse. The one I have most knowledge of is the TED videos. Worthwhile work, without the terrible responsibility of being the only person to ever work on a text.

...the micro-financing site asks for pro-bono translation, or did last I heard. May be worth a look.

Watching America Jan 8, 2016

http://watchingamerica.com/WA/

This is a website where volunteer translators translate news articles about America from various languages into English so that Americans can know what the world is saying about them

I didn't go this route but a colleague of mine did and said he really benefited from the experience.
