Do you mean cloudsourcing? Dec 30, 2012

That concept has been popular in some projects, but you don't get paid for your work. Our business is bases on a firm and personal relationship between client and service provider.
Who would invoice in your team and who would get the money? Would you be my client and pay me what share? Just curious to know what you mean?

Diversified Languages Team Dec 30, 2012

As this is planned to be a “big team”, someone will have to coordinate operations. This person could be designated Director of Diversified Languages Team. Sunny, you may find your new role leaves you little time for your professional calling (translation), but the other members will no doubt be happy to hand over a percentage of their earnings for your work on their behalf.

Big team? Dec 30, 2012

The formation of a translators team was in 1985 the idea behind the creation of Bureau Portugais de Traduction. We are a freelancer cooperative with only 5 associate members (a linguist, a lawyer, a medical doctor, an architect, an IT specialist). I am the team leader/project manager and, as Andrew Swift says, occasionally this leaves little time for my role as a translator... The venture is not as easy as it might seem at first thought: different rates, different time zones, different cultures,... See more

However:
Team members (i.e. peers) should be chosen among:
- your own language pair
- within the scope of your own rates

It doesn't make much sense to invite colleagues at random to your team who:

- serve different markets
- serve different geographic markets
- serve different language pairs
- charge about three times as much as you do

You will not get any collaboration established.

Do I understand you right? Dec 30, 2012

You mean you accept a project though you know you're not good at it, so then you give it to someone else to translate, don't tell your client about it?

If so - it's not very ethical, not to mention the confidentiality issues.

You're not good at it, you don't accept it. As simple as that.

Hope I misunderstood you, in which case I apologise.

Hip Hip..... [uh....don't think so] Dec 30, 2012

So let's say I join your big team....

In addition to the issues others have pointed out, how exactly will you go about the business of quality control for someone who wants to ride on your beautiful balloon if you don't know the language(s) they work in, especially when the pie is (as Nicole has rightly pointed out) so miniscule that you will need to use a laser rather than a knife to cut it up?

My computer uses AI Dec 30, 2012

and moved your invitation directly into the spam folder.

Why should I join a team with you if the only message you have to offer is "work together".
I am convinced that teams are important in the translation industry. However each team member should contribute something to the team. What will be your contribution?

In some sense we are already a "big team". What else could we in fact do?
