hi, I need that someone help me to answer these questions please

 What specialized competencies do you need as a translator?
 What do companies look for in translators?
 How can you improve your field specific knowledge?
 Are there any more jobs you can perform different from being a text translator?
 Is it necessary to be multicultural and multilingual to be a translator?

Thanks

Have you tried searching the forums? Sep 6, 2010

Hello,

I don't mean to be unhelpful, but there is so much information on ProZ, particularly in the "Getting Established" forum and some articles.

When you've had a good read through, if you have some specific questions then I'll be happy to help you.

Happy reading

OK that's rather general.. Sep 7, 2010

 What specialized competencies do you need as a translator?
- you will need to have multilingual skills, be able to work a computer and work mostly independantly, additional skills /experience in a certain field will also help

 What do companies look for in translators?
anything and everything, preferably somebody that owns a crystal ball to help them see what they actually want

 How can you improve your field specific knowledge?

Yes, by reading up on it, taking courses or actually working on it

 Are there any more jobs you can perform different from being a text translator?
Yes translators have been know to do work outside of computers, just like milkmen can become famous actors, but interprets, game testers, communication advisors, writers, bloggers, telephone testers or anything in their specific and/or former lines of work like nurses, doctors, and even presidents...

 Is it necessary to be multicultural and multilingual to be a translator?
This is a big argument, depending on the field of expertise, but there is always some level of multiculture /lingual involved

So that is the quick answer, now go look for answers for yourself, because you basically failed on question 1 - work independantly

and seconded.

First of all, and if you want my honest opinion, you need a complete profile on ProZ and on other sites (*ETA) - you certainly have more expertise than you may be aware of at the moment. Remember that a good profile ensures visibility for potential clients.

And we could answer your questions more easily, don't you think?

(*ETA) even if the Internet-based segment of the translation market is not the only one... and certainly not the biggest one!
