Het elektronisch NL-EN-NL woordenboek dat ik gebruik is het VanDale Groot Woord versie 2.4 van 2006. Ik zou liefst investeren in de laatste nieuwe versie, maar VanDale's website is verre van duidelijk. Ik begrijp niet hoe ik het 'vertalend woordenboek Engels 6.7' moet interpreteren.
De prijs staat er in koeien van letters bij: 198 euro. Maar ik weet niet hoe recent dit woordenboek is, of het werkt zoals het NL-EN en EN-NL woordenboek dat ik in 2006 kocht, en of het wel de moeite waard... I am also curious what exactly that 'vertalend woordenboek Engels 6.7' is. If anyone finds out, I would also love to know. I have the Van Dale Groot Woordenboek EN-NL/NL-EN, Versie 2.1 2006 (digital version), and wonder if there are new terms in this one or not...
Van Dale isn't exactly known for being very up-to-date with their website/support/service (or anything really). It's a shame really, because they have some very good dictionaries.

Ik heb deze, volgens mij de nieuwste. Ik heb het upgegrade van versie 5 voor 20 euro of zo. Wou het vooral hebben omdat je er nu ook de oxford dictionary and thesaurus erbij kan kopen. Verder biedt het vermoedt ik weinig nieuws. Zij hebben sinds een paar versies een soort dropbox: als je een woord uit je Word doc wil opzoeken moet je het selecteren en slepen naar deze box (geen fast key ervoor). Ben er niet echt over te spreken. De allerlaatste versie is ook überhaupt nauwelijks aan te passen, ... See more Ik heb deze, volgens mij de nieuwste. Correctie: ik heb nu wel degelijk informatie ontvangen van VanDale. De 6.7 versie lijkt indrukwekkend en werkt zowel voor NL-EN als EN-NL. Ik ga me die versie aanschaffen en jullie laten weten hoe die meevalt. Olly, ik heb er geen idee van wat het verschil is met versie 6, maar eenmaal mijn versie geinstalleerd is kunnen we onder elkaar een vergelijkende test regelen.

Rare jongens bij van dale. IK kocht mijn versie 6.0 in augustus, een paar maanden geleden, en nu is er alweer een 6.7, die van mij is als ik nog eens 50 euro erbij leg. Ben inderdaad erg benieuwd hoe het verschilt met 6.0 en of het gewoon weer integreert met mijn groot woordenboek en oxford.

De laatste versie van het Groot Woordenboek Duits-Nederlands die ik vorig jaar heb gecontroleerd bevatte nog steeds exact dezelfde inhoud van 6 jaar geleden. De Engelse versie had er een paar honderd woordjes bijgekregen.

Searching for an electronic or web based OED, I found that Van Dale offered the latter at a cheaper price than OED offered itself so I went for that. There was a confusing start up but once it worked, it worked - once you learn to ignore the notice that there's a problem and you need to log in yet again. Can't help thinking that the Van Dale team are all nerdie linguists who are forced to do completely different nerdie IT/Web stuff on rotation against their will.

Meanwhile, a week later, seeking a means of accessing The Grove Dictionary of Art (part of Oxford Online) at an affordable price I was recommended to try membership of the KB. To my delighted surprise, for €15, I now can access Oxford Reference Online Premium which not only includes all the references of Oxford Art Online but also the OED in all variations and many, many other specialist dictionaries and also encyclopaedia. There's much more of course, especially in/on Dutch but no access to Van Dale Online which is quite understandable.
Consequently I have overpaid as the Van Dale Online is now double up but the joy of KB online eases the pain. I'm probably the last person on the planet to have discovered this service but just in case.... ▲ Collapse

What exactly is 'KB online'?
Also, I thought I might mention that if it is not specifically the OED that you are looking for, but rather a current (synchronic) dictionary of English, an ODO (Oxford Dictionaries Online) subscription is substantially cheaper (£42/year). The ODO also comes with a thesaurus, and a wealth of tools for writers and editors, such as (US & UK) style guides, access to a vast corpus of 'example sentences', etc, etc.

The OED and the dictionaries in ODO are themselves very different. While ODO focuses on the current language and practical usage, the OED shows how words and meanings have changed over time.

Ik dacht altijd dat Van Dale alle linguïsten in 2006 had ontslagen en sindsdien alleen nog maar aan marketing doet.

Well, have you me ever! 15 eurootjes per jaar voor een lidmaatschap by de Koninklijke Bieb en je kunt een hele reeks online-diensten gratis gebruiken. Een koopje! Daar hou ik wel van.

Intussen heb ik nu de nieuwe Vandale, versie 6.7 gedownload en mijn eerste indruk is positief.
Een hemelsbreed verschil met versie 2.1 van 2006. Veel meer informatie voor elk woord,
Volgens VanDale is dit de eerste versie die werkt met Windows 7.
Deze downloadversie kost 124.50 Euro + BTW.
Net als Michael vraag ik me ook af of ik in Engeland gebruik kan maken van dat KB-abonnement. Nuttig dat het hier ter sprake gekomen is.

About subscribing to the KB from outside the Netherlands, I live in France and it was no problem subscribing via internet. You do need to send a scan of an ID document and a recent utilities bill top to prove your address but I was registered and able to log in within 24 hours.
