Hi

You´re right! The Netherlands should be translated as "Países Bajos" even though many people refer (wrongly) to that country as "Holanda".

'Países Bajos' es el nombre oficial May 29, 2003

Hi!

I am originally from the Netherlands. The official name of my country is indeed 'los Países Bajos'. However, a lot of Dutch people - especially Northern Dutch people, coming from the provinces 'Noord-Holland' ('Holanda-Norte') and 'Zuid-Holland' ('Holanda-Sud') - refer to the Netherlands with 'Holland' ('Holanda'). Although actually incorrect, its usage seems to have become accepted (internationally) by many people.

Personally, I use 'the Netherlands', since it is the official name.

Hope this helps.

All the best,

Países Bajos

El nombre oficial del país es "los Países Bajos"; el plural países creo recordar que procede de la traducción original del holandés pero que serían "tierras bajas" no quiere decir que sean varios paises, es uno sólo.

That is the official name of the country - The Netherlands. "Holanda" only designates one or more parts of the country "North Holland" and "South Holland."

A lot of people use just "Holanda/Holland" but I do not think that it has as yet been officially changed.

Lucinda tiene razón. Los órganos oficiales llaman a este país los Países Bajos. Abajo pongo los vínculos a las distintas embajadas de los Países Bajos:
España:

Argentina:

Colombia:

Perú:

Ecuador:

En todas las páginas hablan de:
Embajada Real de los Paises Bajos
