I would like to share some information about "redundant" embedded codes that drive everybody crazy, I am trying to find a way to remove them painlessly ("paste unformatted" works, but can cause many formatting problems). I came across a program that reveals these codes, here is a screenshot of what can be found in word documents:

now I have to learn how to remove these "hidden" "added" "deleted" marks that are a trace of former editing of the document, without a real significance, unless someone has some ideas.

Presegment and clean in Trados demo Dec 14, 2007

Thanks for this. Here's another one. Cannot actually confirm this, maybe it is just an urban legend, but presegmenting and cleaning a Word document in Trados is said to take a lot of junk out of a document as well.

It's not an urban legend
It's true.
It's one of the reason why I almost always adopt a mixed Trados > DVX > Trados workflow.

If you don't want to use this kind of complex workflow, it's often sufficient to pretlanslate the doc against an empty Trados TM.
In fact, you get "the same" doc but Trados gets rid of a lot of rogue codes.
As the Trados (Word workflow) uses the styles to format the paragraphs, it eliminates all the redundant or useless junk the Workbench may find (e.g. language change in the middle of the word due to the keyboard switching).

The second advantage of the Trados > DVX > Trados workflow is the DVX project size and a faster DVX import.

Cheers

Oh, why didn't I think further! This was such a pet peeve with DV when I do a JPN > Eng translation, with lots of junk codes. I tried some other remedies which were rather tedious, but this "filtering (pretranslating with Trados)" method didn't occur to me, because I didn't bother to use Trados unless I was asked by the client. Thank you thank you thank you!
