Export problems with ppt files in DVX Thread poster: Sandrine Delrieu

Hi, I can't export ppt files with DVX, and would be happy to get some advice/tips which would help me fix that problem. Thank you, Sandrine | | | Exporting PPT files in DVX | Jan 5, 2006 |
1. The source PPT file must be unaltered and in the exact position that you imported it from. Otherwise, DVX will not be able to export your file. 2. If that is not the problem, it is probably due to codes. Try a code check (go to the start of the file in DVX and press CTRL-Shift-F8, and fix any code problems as appropriate). | | | Yolanda Broad United States Local time: 11:16 Member (2000) French to English + ... I've only ever worked with one PPT file in DV, but had no problem exporting. The immediate question that leaps to mind is whether you have run an embedded code check? Also, are you getting any error messages when you attempt to export? | | | Kirill Semenov Ukraine Local time: 17:16 Member (2004) English to Russian + ... Export or import problem? | Jan 5, 2006 |
Once I had problems when trying to import some PPT files, but if your import in DVX was OK, but if you have an export problem after that, I think, Victor and Yolanda are right, and you have to check the embedded codes carefully. | |

I checked the embedded codes and didn't find any particular problem. The thing is, I don't import the files myself; I receive the files already imported in DVX (along with the source files, in the same folder), and I wonder if the problem could come from that. And when I try to export the finished file, nothing happens and I get a message telling that "the source file is not responding". And when I try to export the finished file, nothing happens and I get a message telling that "the source file is not responding". If you open View>Project Explorer, I bet you won't find the source file in the import box in the middle of the screen. My suggestion: open the Project Explorer. In the top right pane in the middle of the screen you can navigate to where the source file is, then drag it down to the bottom right pane. This does not import it or overwrite your file (you can only do that from the bottom half of that central block of windows). But it may trick DVX into thinking that the PPT was imported from this location. Do not import, just leave the name of the file there in the box at the bottom right. Then try to export your job and see what happens. If you still have no joy, save a second copy of the PPT under a new name, and import this into your project file. Pretranslate it (which should be very quick, because everything is in your MDB) and skim through the file to check any fuzzy or assembled segments. It is also worth checking whether any punctuation and numbers at the end of segments have come over properly. Then export, and your problem should be solved. | | | A fundamental question I overlooked: | Jan 5, 2006 |
You do have PowerPoint on your computer, I hope. Otherwise all of our advice is in vain. | | | Endre Both Germany Local time: 16:16 English to German Location of source file important | Jan 5, 2006 |

This is probably the cause of the problem. Even if the relative path is the same (i.e. the agency imported the file from the same directory in which the project file was located), if the absolute path is different (e.g. your project is in D:\data, the agency's in E:\data), DVX will choke. You either have to ask the agency to export the file for you, or you need to place the source file in the exact same path from where it was imported To find it out, you need to open a copy of the project in MS Access (rename the extension from .dvprj to .mdb) and look into the Files table. Thank you for your help. I will follow your advice and will let you know whether I experience some success or not. (And yes, I have Powerpoint installed on my computer.) Fortunately, my client exports the files for me and it works just fine that way, but I would like to find out why I can't do it myself.
